Gleeson & Cox: Over a Century of Moving Auckland Forward

Some businesses have history. Gleeson & Cox has over a century of it.

It all started in 1912 when Daniel Gleeson bought a Model T Ford to run cream and fill potholes on Franklin County roads. It was humble, practical work — but it planted the seed for what would become one of Auckland's most enduring transport businesses.

Daniel retired from transport in 1938, but the family's connection to the industry never faded. In 1967, his son Brian Gleeson and long-time friend Don Cox joined forces to form Gleeson & Cox Ltd — a partnership built on shared values, hard work and a deep respect for the trade that the Gleeson family had been part of for generations.

Decades on, the company has expanded significantly, playing a key role in some of New Zealand's major infrastructure projects and cementing its reputation as a trusted name on Auckland's roads and highways.

In this customer story, owner James Gleeson reflects on how it all began, what the business has become, and the pride he takes in looking to the future alongside his sons Blake and Clark. It's a story of succession, legacy and a family that has never once walked away from a hard day's work.

Over 110 years since that first cream run, Gleeson & Cox is still moving Auckland forward.
