Dynes Transport is a multi-sector logistics operation based in Otago, New Zealand, that has grown from a father-son passion into a nationwide powerhouse since its inception in 1969.
Led by Pete Dynes, the company manages an expansive fleet of over 200 trucks, specializing in diverse sectors including log cartage with over 70 trucks, timber, containers, and a massive dairy operation featuring 140 milk tankers that handle bulk liquids throughout NZ. Their "organized chaos" extends to seasonal harvests, transporting potatoes for McCain’s customers, grapes in Marlborough, and wine and juice across Gisborne, Napier, and Auckland.
This complex operation is grounded in a deep-seated family values system and a hands-on approach to management where leadership is focused on results rather than formal titles.
The relationship between Dynes Transport and Southpac Trucks and the Kenworth brand is built on a multi-generational addiction to the brand, which makes up roughly 70% of their total fleet.
Pete Dynes credits his father with teaching him that Kenworth’s are the trucks that "get you through the tough times," a belief so strong that Pete began driving them at just 11 years old.
The partnership with Southpac is essential for their uptime; during peak milk season, the fleet can cover over 100,000 kilometres a day, making breakdown-prevention a critical necessity that Southpac delivers on 100% of the time.
From K200s on curtain sliders to T610s in the logs and the iconic T909s that Pete describes as "horn tucker," the Kenworth brand remains the backbone of the Dynes operation.
