EECA Funding for JAC Electric Trucks
EECA LOW EMISSIONS HEAVY VEHICLE FUND
Make the move to a JAC electric truck cost less.
The Low Emissions Heavy Vehicle Fund can help eligible New Zealand organisations reduce the upfront cost of an approved JAC EV truck. Southpac and the JAC team can help you identify an eligible model and manage the supplier process.
The funding at a glance
The LEHVF is designed to increase the number of zero and low-emissions heavy vehicles operating on New Zealand roads by helping address their higher upfront cost.
Who may be eligible?
Eligibility depends on both the purchasing organisation and the vehicle selected. EECA makes the final determination under its current rules.
- New Zealand-based and New Zealand-registered legal entities may be eligible.
- State-owned enterprises, local councils and regional councils are included.
- The vehicle must appear on EECA's approved vehicle and supplier list.
- The vehicle must be new and have a GVM of at least 5.9 tonnes.
Not eligible: Public service departments, non-public service departments such as the New Zealand Defence Force, and statutory Crown entities. Funding applies to the eligible cab chassis only and excludes the body build or fit-out.
How the process works
Talk to the JAC team
Tell us about your routes, payload and body requirements so we can help identify the right JAC EV model.
Confirm eligibility
We will check the model against the current EECA-approved vehicle list and prepare the vehicle quote.
Complete the information
The approved supplier manages the purchase process and provides the required customer application information.
Apply the grant
If approved, the eligible grant is applied to the cab-chassis purchase so you pay the supplier less the grant amount.
Common questions
Is the funding guaranteed?
No. Eligibility, approved vehicle status, category caps and available funding all apply. The fund may close earlier if its allocation is exhausted.
Does the grant cover the body build?
No. EECA states that LEHVF grants apply to the eligible cab chassis and exclude bodywork.
Can the grant be used for a second-hand truck?
Purchase grants are available for new vehicles on EECA's approved list. Separate rules apply to eligible conversions of existing vehicles.
Who handles the application?
EECA-approved suppliers manage the purchase process. Southpac and the JAC team can help confirm the current vehicle status and guide you through the customer information required.
How long will the fund remain open?
EECA says the fund needs to be fully committed by 2028, but it is administered on a first-in, first-served basis and may close earlier if funding is exhausted.
